A story through the frame
Beyond the edit
Every good movie, short film or documentary is based on a solid story. Shots and images are but a medium through which emotions, sensations and meaning are conveyed. A story is not only told by editing, but also by the framing, playing with light and shadows ; by the texture and the plasticity of the photosensitive area itself, be it an analog film or a modern CMOS sensor.
The mastery and the choice of the tools with which to capture and modify light is therefore paramount as it permits crafting in depth the experience and feelings an image evoques. This is why I always try to find new techniques and refine my skills as much as possible.
Lenses
Why shoot with Vintage lenses?
Modern optics have the disadvantage of creating too perfect images. In the same way a character without flaws is boring, I find that too clinical an image becomes rapidly uninteresting. Flares, optical vignetting, softness and the texture of the blur that vintage cinema lenses produce give a more flattering rendering as well as a more sensitive approach.
Each focal lenght produce a unique aesthetic, and thanks to a large personnal collection, we possess many varied tools able to create a singular experience in each of our projects.
